S.D. Ireland’s roots in residential & commercial development originate with its founder Stuart Ireland (Stu), who trained as a stone mason in high school to kick start a lifelong journey for him and his family in building trades. Moving his young family from RI to VT to build and manage a family run resort, they went from construction to hospitality and then ultimately chose to make construction their focus. Homebuilding expanded to concrete construction and with his sons at the helm, later expanded to all areas of heavy construction, commercial construction, real estate development and property management. Always a family endeavor, Stu’s wife Peggy managed the books while her husband and sons managed the construction. Today the capable leadership of SD Ireland is led by Stu and Peggy’s sons Stephen D Ireland and Scott D Ireland, his wife Kim and their extended family.

Land development began in earnest in 2008 with Severance Corners Village Center in Colchester VT beginning with thirteen buildings, a mix of residential condominiums, apartments and commercial uses. Soon to follow, South Village Communities in South Burlington, Bayberry Commons in Burlington, Sunderland Farms in Colchester, Cambrian Rise and City Place in Burlington are all ongoing projects. All are examples of unique and successful smart growth development. Each project combines mixed use planned urban development and incorporate new urbanism design, thoughtful planning, and execution. The company and their projects have weathered economic downturns and economic growth in the greater Burlington area to meet market demands.

S.D. Ireland takes great pride in setting high standards for responsible and smart growth in all their development projects. Each building incorporates top quality construction materials, high efficiency energy standards, advanced sound abatement and skilled craftsmanship. All aspects of interiors and exteriors are carefully planned for performance, functionality, appearance and enjoyment of the occupants. Starting from the ground up, from foundation to finish, S.D. Ireland’s many divisions expertise takes a project from its conception to completion, including all permitting, excavation and infrastructure & utilities installation, paving, building construction from framing to finish, to final landscaping, either performing all work with the SD Ireland Construction team and key partners whose performance and reputation can be counted on. SD Ireland’s vendors and sub-contractors all take a partner approach to projects with excellence as a key strategy to bring about successful outcomes. All teams take pride not only in their own work, but the combined outcome of the overall project.
